Malabar Mutton



Ingredients:-

Mutton – 800 gm
Onion medium – 2
Chopped ginger- 2 tbsp
Garlic – 12-15 cloves
Green chilly – 3-4
Tomato medium - 3
Oil – ½ cup
Jeera – 1 tsp
Coriander – 1 tbsp
Red chilli – 4-5
Fenugreek – ½ tsp
Cinnamon 1 inch – 2 pieces
Cardamom - 4-6
Cloves – 6-8
Bayleaves – 2
Coconut - ¾ cup
Poppy seeds – 2 tbsp
Pepper – 10-12
Mustard - a pinch
Curry leaves - 10-12
Turmeric – 1 tsp
Chilly powder – ½ tsp
Salt - to taste

Method:-

  1. Heat oil in a pan & add jeera, coriander, redchilly, fenugreek,cinnamon,cardamom, cloves,bay leaves.
  2. Stir for 30 seconds & add coconut, poppy seeds, pepper.
  3. Once coconut becomes golden brown, switch off. Grind this mix into a thick paste.
  4. Heat oil & splutter mustard, curry leaves.
  5. Add onion, when it becomes golden brown add, ginger, garlic & chilly paste.
  6. Mix well.Add mutton & stir continuously for 10 min on high flame.
  7. Add turmeric, chilly powder , salt & tomato.
  8. Cook till the oil separates.
  9. Add 4 cups of water & boil. Cook till the mutton is done.
  10. Add masala paste.
  11. Cook for 10 more minutes, till the gravy becomes thick.
